Applying the study activity model - introduction to students

The study activity model may be applied to engage in dialogue with students about what is expected of them as full-time university students and as a tool to visualise the activities included in Aalborg University's full-time degree programmes.

At Aalborg University, all students are introduced to the study activity model and the expected workload of a typical semester. This introduction is mandatory and must be part of the overall semester introduction at all bachelor's and master's degree programmes.

As a minimum, the introduction to the study activity mode must include the following:

  • The pedagogical approach of AAU and how this is reflected in the  activities of the study activity model
  • The expected workload of students, including increased expected workload during peak periods (full-time study involves an
average of approximately 43 hours in active programme weeks)
  • How the various study activities are included in the specific programme
  • How students are responsible for their own learning achievements
  • Study activities organised by lecturers
  • Study activities that the students themselves are responsible for organising
